Among all the works created by Claude Monet The Pond of Water Lilies, Green Harmony is one of the magnificent paintings made by this Impressionist artist. The work was created in 1899, its dimensions are 89.5x100 and it is currently kept at the Musée d'Orsay in Paris, but in fact this painting is available in different versions.
Analysis of the painting “Water Lily Pond, Green Harmony”
The painting belongs to the series "The Water Lilies of Monet" and like other works that have the same subject, it was created during the long stay of the painter in Jeu de Paume.
As it is well known, for about 40 years the painter has been spending a lot of time in his garden in Giverny, a magical place built in Japanese style, which housed many exotic plants and which were an inspiration for Claude Monet in his continuous search for harmony between colours, study of light and improvement of pictorial technique in general.
In the painting "Water Lily Pond, Green Harmony" you can see some trees in the garden of the painter and above all, the stagnant ground that housed the water lilies, a pond that was crossed thanks to the wooden bridge that Monet had it built.
Once again Claude Monet gives us a harmony of colours, a work in which irregular brushstrokes create stains of colour that give life to a restful landscape and in this case, green predominates in all its shades. The shades of green can be seen in every part of the painting, but it is the pond with its water lilies that is the real protagonist, surrounded by plants of all kinds: willows, gladioli, nasturtiums and many other species that can be seen thanks to the yellow, blue and red "spots" that give the painting perfection.
In Japan there is a small lake called "Pond of Monet"
Famous paintings often inspire architects, interior designers and other professional figures, just as nature itself sometimes seems to be inspired by works of the past and this statement is confirmed in Japan, near the town of Seki (prefectures of Gifu), where there is a pond nicknamed "Pond of Monet". It is a very clear pond fed by mountain streams in that area and it hosts different varieties of colourful lilies and water lilies. The image that many tourists find in front of themselves is heavenly, as it resembles an enchanted place inspired by the water lilies of Monet.
This small lake belongs to the Nemichi sanctuary, one of the many Shinto sanctuaries scattered throughout Japan and consisting of wooden buildings dedicated to the sanctification of the many gods of the ancient Japanese religion.
There are about 250 paintings by Monet dedicated to water lilies
The pond of the water lilies, green harmony is not really a single picture, but the different variants have been created by Claude Monet, focusing each time on a particular shade of colour that dominated the canvas. Together with the various paintings called "Water Lilies", The Water Lilies Pond in all its forms and colours is part of the Water Lilies series and a large number of works belonging to this series are kept in the most important museums in the world: Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, National Gallery in London, Orangery Museum, National Gallery of Modern Art in Rome, etc.
